WASHINGTON, DC. Thursday, December 7, 2005 – The Congressional Legislative
Staff Association (CLSA) hosted a fundraiser for the Helping Our Heroes Foundation (HOHF) and
pledged to match the night’s donations. The fundraiser brought in $450 and CLSA generously
matched the donations to bring the total to $900.
“HOHF has been working hard to throw a holiday party at Walter Reed and this donation has
helped us achieve our goals to provide gift bags to injured veterans,” said Karen Theobald-Conlin,
president and founder of HOHF. “It is groups like CLSA that enable the foundation to get
the assistance and support to our heroes wounded in battle.”
The Congressional Legislative Staff Association is a nonpartisan, professional organization dedicated
to providing increased professional opportunities to the legislative staff of the House of Representatives
and the Senate.
Representing 535 congressional offices from every state in the Union, CLSA serves as a conduit
for panel discussions, briefings, and embassy events with ambassadors and diplomats from nations
of vital interest to U.S. foreign policy. Additionally, the Association holds seminars on topics
of professional interest for its members and works with charity and community organizations in
the greater Washington area.
“The fundraiser went much better than expected and due to the generosity of our CLSA members
we were able to donate a check for $900 to the Helping Our Heroes Foundation,” stated Charles
Elliot, President of CLSA. “To quote Bogart, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship
between CLSA and the Helping Our Heroes Foundation. There are few more deserving people in our
nation than those who risked everything for our freedom.”
The Helping Our Heroes Foundation was founded in October of 2004 and since that time has given
over $100,000 in financial grants to wounded soldiers, airmen, marines, sailors, and guardsmen.
The foundation works closely with the Army’s Disabled Soldier Support System to provide
whatever assistance is needed to injured veterans. The foundation also provides air travel to
reunite families, donations to hospitals in theater, and hosts regular lunch parties at Walter
Reed.
