Volunteer your time and services

Volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities

Geographical boundaries are non-existent as there are opportunities for those interested to participate in different stages of the patients recovery and by performing other tasks from their own locale.

For further information on becoming a volunteer, please fill out our Volunteer Form with your location, hours available, area of interest, and complete contact information.

What can I do in my community?

  • Organize Fund-Raising Events in your home town and make HOHF the beneficiary. Contact us and we can open a separate paypal account to receive donations for your fundraiser. We will send thank you notes to your donors (verifying their contribution to our 501(c)(3) charitable organization) and provide you with a list of all donors. If you give us contact information for your local media, we will send them HOHF information to help get the word out about your event.
  • Collect for 2006 Holiday Gift Bags. Organize a drive in your community to contribute to the over 300 gift bags HOHF distributes to patients and their children during the holidays. Start gathering the items at church, work, school, neighborhood, etc. Please collect the following new items: winter gloves, scarves, socks, hats, sports shirts, long sleeved t-shirts, gift certificates for fast food (McDonald's, Subway, Pizza Hut), dvd's, cd's, gym bags, cologne, perfume, toys, etc. (no home-baked goods, please).

Volunteer Opportunities

What's the best way to assist?

  • Send Money. The resounding response is that cash donations afford the most flexibility and avoid the need for shipping, storage, and sorting. Many of those injured have incurred financial stress on their family and their recovery will move quicker if we can help to relieve some of this. All financial grants are awarded through a process, and HOHF verifies the level of need to ensure financial responsibility.

What if I want to give something more tangible?

  • Host Special Events for the injured and recuperating, both in Washington DC and in regional locations around the country. These may include fund-raising events, career nights, resume writing seminars, morale events, etc.
  • Create an educational scholarship for an injured soldier to register in schooling or vocational training should they desire to change careers after their injury.
  • Provide goods, services or funds such as donating a library of career publications, computers for schooling, tickets to entertainment events, sponsoring an injured soldier and family during the holidays, etc.
  • Have a special date be remembered by your friends and family by asking them to make donations to HOHF (in honor of your birthday, anniversary, wedding, etc.).
